Rotary Club of Norwood Changeover 2022/23
 

On July 6th, 2022, Rotary Club of Norwood held the Changeover Dinner Meeting for 2022/23 at the Republic, Magill Road. 
Euan Miller, the former President and current Secretary and Treasure of RC Norwood, welcomed all the attendees for this evening, followed by Paul Wade and Sigrid Pfaffle who gave loyal toast and toast to Rotary International respectively.
 
In response to the toast, Euan talked about the development of Rotary Culture over the past few years, particularly about how the idea of regionalization of Rotary was developed and implemented, how regionalization pilot has proceeded so far, and what is the expectation in recent future for regionalization project of Rotary Zone 8.
 
After the main course, Euan presented a report to summarize our past 2021-22. The past 2021-22 was not a easy year for us, as we’ve lost Graham Perrin, our former treasurer and dedicated Rotarian for many years, who suddenly passed away on 25th April. We also had resignations from Julie Carman because of health issues, Sam Hamilton-Smith due to personal reasons, andChristel Mex who will continue to support us from the Council. In addition, we’ve also lost Peter Poulton, who had provided excellent assistance to our various events including Bunnings BBQs and Movie Nights in recent years before his passing.
However, we’ve still achieved lots in the past year. We had a successful Movie Night on 19th August 2021 when Respect attracted more than 200 to attend at the Regal Theatre. Our fundraising international project in Mashonaland Central in the north of Zimbabwe is in progress at both Muzarabani High School and Hwata Secondary School, where the critical infrastructure as water and sanitation is under constant improvement. We have commenced our local community project as Music for Dementia to collaborate with local home carer businesses and bring sweet music to the residents who are suffering from dementia. We also organized and participated in the Mental Health First Aid course, together with members from Kensington Residents Association and volunteers from City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters Council. Moreover, we have kept our fundraising through a series of BBQ events in front of Bunnings Mile End, and in local community such as Melodies in the Park held at the Joslin Reserve, St Peters.
 
Euan also introduced and handled over the president collar to Rob Rushton-Smith, who will be the RC Norwood president for 2022-23. In return, Rob introduced the Board of RC Norwood for 2022-23, and the Strategic Plan. Rob emphasized that as a small Rotary club at current stage, we are facing challenges and need to be realistic in setting the goals. Rob expressed thankfulness to all attendees at this dinner meeting, promised that he would focus on increasing the happiness and involvement of current Rotary members and friends. Also, increasing engagement with other Rotary clubs and communities.
