Rotary Club of Norwood met with District Governor on Feb 21st
On Feb 21st, RC Norwood met with the District Governor Craig Dowling at the Kensi, and had a meaningful 2-hour conversation together with guests , including volunteers who had engaged with us for the Richards Park planting and beautification project and Nigel Jordan, The Volunteer Services Coordinator from NPSP Council who assisted with the implementation and completion of the project. We also appreciated the attendance of AG Elizabeth Gagliardi.
Rob introduced all the guests for this meeting and expressed his special thanks and appreciation to Nigel and all volunteers who participated in the Richards Park project. Rob also described our recent effort of initiating new community projects to help the homeless and those affected by domestic violence and emphasized the value of RC Norwood being a small club. In addition, Rob announced we shall soon distribute our promotion sheet in the local community to attract potential new members.
After Rob’s report, Nigel enthusiastically recognised our contribution in Richards Park., He mentioned that the assistance provided by all participants planting over 300 plants, setting up irrigation, weeding and other general tasks have made real difference in the Park, and the engagement between volunteers was also great fun. Nigel also presented the Certificate of Appreciation from the NPSP Council to us.
Both Rob and Nigel expressed their sincere gratitude to the Norwood Resident Association as several of their members joined the Richards Park Project as volunteers.
In response to Rob’s speech, Elizabeth commented that one major task in her duty as AG is to promote communication between different Rotary Clubs, and between Clubs and District.
The District Governor gave a speech after dinner, reiterated the value of small Rotary Clubs and confirmed that many small Clubs are still very active because of their highly engaged core members. He also talked about his enjoyment visiting and having conversation with Rotary clubs throughout District 9510. Moreover, DG emphasized that Rotary Clubs should always live to serve to change lives, through both international projects and local community engagement.
Then, DG described two major focuses of District 9510: Rotary Says No to Domestic Violence, and how Rotary Clubs can participate .and the Aboriginal Chronic Disease Prevention Project. For the Aboriginal Chronic Disease Prevention Project, he stated the background and current objectives set out at this stage. In response to this, the Rotary Club of Norwood has donated $500 to the project, with the aim of further donations for the next three years. He also talked about the Regionalisation Pilot.
