The 24th October was World Polio Day, The Rotary Club of Norwood and Rotary Club of Eastwood combined to hold the movie night to present the film “Lee” to raise funds for the Rotary Foundation End Polio Now project.
With Kate Winslet acting the leading role of Lee Miller, this movie shows a wartime heroine behind the lens, who was once a fashion model and photographer in New York and Paris but became a brave and courageous frontline war correspondent for Vogue during World War II.
We had members from RC Norwood, Eastwood and Hyde Park, who helped out on the night as volunteers. Natasha Pope did an excellent catering job. We sold 121 tickets in total, which is in par with other movie nights in recent years.
Rob welcomed the guests and provided the event overview. The District Governor, M-I Lees, a passionate supporter of the Rotary Foundation detailed the recent concerning outbreak of polio in Gaza, as well as new cases in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Euan performed the raffle prize draw after completion of the movie.
The returning of our Movie Night was a great success, and we would like to express a BIG THANK YOU to all who helped towards ENDING POLIO NOW! We are very appreciative of Sigrid’s considerable experience in the overall planning of our movie nights.
