As we are approaching the end of another Rotary year, the changeover dinner for our club took place on 14th June 2024, at the Maylands Hotel.
It was a memorable night, with the Member for Dunstan, Cressida O’Hanlon, her husband James, The District Governor Craig Dowling , Area Governor Elizabeth Gagliardi and Presdents/President Elects from six 6 District 9510 Area 8 Clubs in attendance, plus members and partners.
All the attendees were welcomed and introduced by President Rob Rushton-Smith.
Then, our secretary and treasurer Euan Miller provided the acknowledgement to country, Loyal toast and invocation. Bob Brigden proposed the toast to Rotary International, which was responded to by DG Craig Dowling, who described what magic Rotary International could bring to change our lives as represented by the motto of Rotary International for 2024-25.
There was a presentation of photos from all our events in 2023-24, including the 69th Birthday Dinner, Shelterbags delivery to the Norwood salvos. induction of new members Anna and Naomi, Norwood Parade promotions, Norwood Christmas Pageant, fellowship events and the presentation of microwaves, baby strollers to Eastern Adelaide Domestic Violence Service etc.
Together with these images Rob reviewed what we had experienced, as well as stated our expectations for 2024-25. Rob mentioned that we shall celebrate our 70th birthday in August. Rob emphasized the meaning of membership is not just to simply increase the number of club members, but to ensure the fellowship between Rotary members is always strong, and members are feeling happy by being engaged. Rob also expressed his sincere thanks to all members for their support and efforts during the year, including the behind the scenes work and commitment by our member Di Clements as the Governor for Area 9 and District 9510 responsibilities in her role in Leadership and Development.
After the main course, Cressida gave her address as the new MP for Dunstan. She described her background and early childhood back in Italy, France and Spain, her experience of fighting against flood with her community in early life, her efforts of involving young people as community volunteers, her life after moving in Adelaide, the motives to get involved in politics and serving the local community, and other experiences with different communities, including Italian and Greek. Cressida also expressed her thanks to her family members.
After the dessert was served, Rob looked ahead to the 2024-25, explained both problems and opportunities for a small clubs such as the Rotary Club of Norwood. Rob declared that we shall follow the RC Port Lincoln Model, in which President focuses on representing Club and communication, and many other members will focus on one area each of club agendas.
It was very appreciative of having all the attendees join us our Changeover Dinner, We look forward to witness how the Magic of Rotary could bring in the new Rotary year.
